Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today, along with Congress in-charge in the MCD Shri Farhad Suri and the nine Congress Councillors, Shri Devender Yadav said that for the past some time, there was power struggle in the MCD, and whenever the House session is held, no meaningful discussion could take place, as the House got adjourned without transacting any business due to the fight between the BJP and AAP Councillors. He said that Congress’ commitment is to the people of Delhi, who have elected the Councillors. Besides Shri Devender Yadav and Shri Farhad Suri, others present were Leader of the Congress in the MCD Nazia Danish, Councillors Mandeep Singh, Sheetal, Ariba Khan, Shagufta Chaudhary, Haji Zarif, Sameer Ahmad, Sabila Begum and Nazia Khatoon.

Shri Devender Yadav said that although Aam Aadmi Party has more Councilors in the House than the BJP, 124 to 115, a series of defections have narrowed the difference from 30 Councillors to nine, but Delhi Congress, after having discussions with party Councillors, had decided to keep equidistance from the election, and let the party which gets the maximum votes win. He said that Congress and its Councillors want to maintain their integrity, and will not be part of any horse-trading, as both BJP and AAP together have destroyed Delhi without allowing any work to be done by the Councillors in their respective wards in the past two years.

Former Mayor Shri Farhad Suri said that the MCD had failed to do its duty ever since the new body was formed by totally neglecting the maintenance of the city and for the welfare of the people. He said that no desilting work had been carried out, street lights do not function, roads are broken, garbage piles have grown taller, and the civic infrastructure was in a total mess, as BJP and AAP were busy in their petty power struggle.

AAP Ministers and MLAs waste the first day’s proceedings of the two-day session of the Delhi Assembly with a pre-plan to white-wash the tainted image of Kejriwal— sidetracks issues affecting the people—Devender Yadav

NEW DELHI, September 26, 2024—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that the Aam Aadmi Party Ministers and MLAs seemed to have come with a preplan to disturb the first day of the two-day session of the Delhi Assembly, which was convened after a one-year gap, to glory Arvind Kejriwal, who is out on bail from jail in connection with the liquor scam, instead of discussing issues affecting the people that needs urgent attention. He said that AAP’s strategy was not to table the 12 CAG reports pending with the Government, despite repeated direction by the Lt. Governor, which, if dissussed, would expose the massive corruption that took place under the Kejriwal Government. He said that the day’s session was wasted in whitewashing the tainted image of Kejriwal. He said that the 2 crore people of Delhi have been suffering ever since Kejriwal came to power, and not just when he was in jail, as his entire Cabinet had proved their incompetence then, in tackling water shortage, waterlogging and the resultant tragic deaths.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the precious time of the House should have been utilized to discuss problems directly affecting the people, like stoppage of old age pension, soaring air pollution, terrible potholed condition of roads, the non-functioning of the street lights, the choked condition of drains and sewers as they have not been cleaned for the past 10 years. Instead, the AAP legislators spent most of the time in attacking the Lt. Governor to cover up the ruling party’s failures.
