Protest demonstrations held at Pizza Hut outlets across the country calling for boycott in solidarity with Palestine!

Multiple protest demonstrations took place in different cities and regions of India outside the outlets of Pizza Hut, a global pizza giant, which has supported the genocidal, settler-colonial state of Israel.

These demonstrations were held under the banner of “Indian People in Solidarity with Palestine” (IPSP) which is organising a country-wide Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign in association with various mass organisations.

The aim of these demonstrations is to resist Zionist Israel’s genocide against the people of Palestine.

In 2017, Pizza Hut released an advertisement on the social media platforms targeting Palestinian political prisoners who were on a hunger strike against the brutal living conditions of Israeli prisons.

While children in Gaza are starving everyday, Pizza Hut distributes free Pizzas to the Israel Defence Forces that have been committing grave war crimes and waging a genocide in Gaza for two years now.

Pizza Hut operates approximately 97 franchises in Israel which makes it the largest pizza chain in the occupied Palestine.

Pizza Hut’s parents company Yum Brands has also invested in various Israeli startups and is deeply involved in the settler-colonial state’s economy.

That is why Pizza Hut is being boycotted by conscientious citizens across the globe.

Calling for this boycott in India as well, demonstrations were held in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Rohtak, Chandigarh, Vishkahapatnam, Vijayawada, Patna, and other regions.

Revolutionary Workers’ Party of India (RWPI), Naujawan Bharat Sabha, Disha Students’ Organization, Stree Mukti League, Delhi State Anganwadi Workers’ and Helpers’ Union took part in the protest along with common citizens and other groups.

IPSP has previously organised such demonstrations at the outlets of other complicit companies such as Starbucks, Reliance Retail, Tata’s Zudio, Dominos, Mahindra, Adidas etc.

IPSP member Priyamvada stated that the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions call is adopted across the world against Zionist Israel and those institutions, companies, and enterprises that give it economic, diplomatic backing and cultural legitimacy.

Along with this, it calls for a boycott of Israeli Zionist intellectuals, writers, artists, academicians, films etc as well. She noted that while the imperialist countries of the West and big capitalists and companies stand with Israel for their own economic and geopolitical interests, justice-loving people across the world are taking to the streets to protest against the genocide and against their own country’s ties to Israel.

Naujawan Bharat Sabha’s Prof. B Srinivas Rao spoke about the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Since the militant resistance on 7th October 2023, Israel has unleashed the most barbaric war crimes in Gaza.

Over 62,000 people are declared dead, while over 4,00,000 people are “missing” and lakhs more injured.

Israel’s complete blockade on Gaza has pushed 2 crore Palestinians into a man-made famine. Even the handful of aid sites that operate in the Gaza Strip have become murder zones where Israel shoots down those waiting in line for aid.

Israel recently murdered several more journalists.

It bombed the Al-Nasser hospital, and then unleashed a second round when rescue workers and journalists arrived at the scene. The impunity that Israel enjoys despite committing the most heinous crimes is telling of the world order today, where the imperialist powers stay silent as long as their interests are protected and pockets are fattened.

He further stated how the entire Zionist project of Israel exists for this very purpose. A state that did not even exist before 1948 has been unleashing violence on the Palestinian people who have lived and worked on the land for generations.

Through forceful evictions and settlements, Israel is a colonial experiment that is receiving the backing of the most powerful imperialist forces.

In the face of this oppression, the Palestinian people have been fighting for their liberation for decades, with an unwavering spirit that has shown the world new heights of courage, bravery, and the undying desire for freedom and life.

Speaking on behalf of the BDS India campaign Swapnaja noted how the BDS movement is spreading rapidly across the globe in solidarity with Palestine. The movement has caused many Israel-supporting companies to close shop across the world.

Pizza Hut’s sales are down 6% in US compared to last year and one of their major franchisees, EYM group filed for bankruptcy.

As the global solidarity movement is spreading, we are also witnessing the desperate attempts of the rulers to crush this resistance.

USA and several European countries have unleashed police brutality against protestors.

The UK recently declared a non-violent direction action group, Palestine Action as a “terrorist organisation” and made several arrests in connection.

Egypt recently left no stone unturned in trying to stop the Global March to Gaza. In our own country, a peaceful demonstration by IPSP outside the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi was met with brutal police repression and ongoing harassment.

These instances, however, only reaffirm the need for us to come together today to stand with Palestine.

As people of a country that suffered 200 years of colonial rule ourselves, we know the pain of such oppression and the value of freedom very well.

Today, we cannot call ourselves human if we do not stand unwaveringly with the Palestinian people.
