BJP’s Rekha Gupta Government inflicts another heavy financial burden on the power consumers of Delhi to favour the power distribution companies in an unfair deal—Devender Yadav
The Delhi government’s move to pave the way for directly benefiting power distribution companies—by greenlighting a hike in the PPAC component of monthly electricity bills at the Centre’s behest—amounts to a betrayal of the people of Delhi.
BJP’s Rekha Gupta Government inflicts another heavy financial burden on the power consumers of Delhi to favour the power distribution companies in an unfair deal—Devender Yadav
NEW DELHI, June 13, 2026—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that in a deliberate and calculated move, the power distribution companies have been allowed to fleece the power consumers when power consumption is at its peak in the Capital during the summer with the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) giving the approval of a higher Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS) in the guise to cover rising procurement and supply costs, He said that like the previous AAP Government, the BJP Government is also passing on every financial burden on the common people as the power tariff hike would be another numbing blow on the residents of Delhi, already burdened by the hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas cylinders and CNG repeatedly over the past few days He said that the Rekha Gupta Government was yet to honour its election promises made to the people of Delhi, though the BJP had come to power in Delhi over a year ago, but is quick to pass on any financial burden on the people, like the power tariff hike.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the DERC has implemented the tariff hike on the plea of offsetting the ₹38,500 crore in unrecovered debt though the question arises as to why such a huge debt was allowed to accumulate when the power distribution companies have been prompt in collecting the power consumption charges from the consumers without fail.
Shri Devender Yadav said that like the previous AAP Government, the Rekha Gupta Government is also favouring the power distribution companies which was clearly evident from Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood’s statement that “Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC) is not a new system as there is a provision already in place under the electricity laws, through which power companies adjust the increased cost of fuel and power purchase”, thus justifying the loot of the power consumers by the power distribution companies by the Minister himself, which shows the complicity of the Delhi Government with the power distribution companies.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the AAP Government had also adopted a similar strategy to favour the power distribution companies by imposing various surcharges and PPAC on the consumers without directly hiking the power tariffs to mislead the public.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the Rekha Gupta Government was more concerned about the profit margins of the power distribution companies and not about the heavy financial burden being offloaded on the power consumers.
Shri Devender Yadav said that in percentage terms, the tariff hike will impact the consumers served by BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), which covers East and Central Delhi, by about 5.7 per cent, in areas served by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) by 3.4 per cent (South and West Delhi), areas under Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) by a marginal hike.
