*New Delhi, October 25-* Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that the present government will work to further accelerate the pace of ‘non-stop Haryana’. He said that the opposition will also play an important role in this effort. Suggestions from the opposition that serve the public interest are always welcome, and we will make every possible effort to meet the expectations, hopes, and aspirations of the people.

The Chief Minister, who also serves as the Leader of the House, made these remarks during his address on the first day of the 15th Haryana Legislative Assembly session after the House unanimously elected MLA Harvinder Kalyan as the new Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha.

Congratulating Harvinder Kalyan on being elected as Speaker, the Chief Minister praised his extensive experience, distinctive working style, and admirable personal qualities such as humility and discretion. He expressed confidence that Sh Kalyan would elevate the dignity of the Speaker’s post to new heights. He said that Harvinder Kalyan has been elected to the Assembly for the third consecutive time and possesses vast experience in political and social life. Over the past decade, he has diligently contributed to legislative work through his involvement in numerous parliamentary committees. Highlighting his achievements, the Chief Minister mentioned that from 2019 to 2023, Sh Kalyan served as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. In addition, he has held the prestigious positions of Chairman of the Estimates Committee and the Public Undertakings Committee.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the newly elected Speaker would efficiently and impartially conduct the proceedings of the House, further strengthening democratic traditions. “As Speaker, he will set new benchmarks at every step,” he said, urging all members to prioritize the public interest and the state’s welfare in their thoughts, words and actions.

Referring to Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi’s remarks during the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha, the Chief Minister recalled, “The Prime Minister said that we do not wish to move forward merely on the strength of numbers but by taking everyone into confidence.” He said that this principle would serve as an ideal and guiding motto for every session of the House.

Sh Nayab Singh Saini also highlighted that the current government, having won the public’s mandate for a third consecutive term, has accepted its responsibility for public service. However, every member of this House is equally committed to public service. He reaffirmed his commitment to working collaboratively with all members, both from the ruling party and the opposition.

Sh Nayab Singh Saini highlighted that of the 90 members in the 15th Vidhan Sabha, 40 have been elected for the first time. The new members will have much to learn from the experience of senior members, while the seasoned members will, in turn, draw inspiration from the energy and enthusiasm of the newcomers. He emphasized the importance of providing first-time MLAs with ample opportunities to speak and contribute meaningfully to discussions. Reflecting on gender representation, the Chief Minister said, “In the 14th Vidhan Sabha, nine women were elected, likened to Navratnas. It is a matter of pride that this number has now increased by one and a half times, with 13 women members in the current Assembly.

Congratulating Dr Krishan Lal Middha on his unanimous election as Deputy Speaker, the Chief Minister remarked on the historic achievement and said that for the first time in Haryana’s history, an engineer has been elected Speaker and a doctor as Deputy Speaker. This unique combination will further accelerate the pace of development of the state. He expressed confidence that the Deputy Speaker would ensure inclusiveness, allowing every member the opportunity to express their views, while upholding the dignity of the House.

On behalf of the entire House and Cabinet, the Chief Minister assured that democratic values would be upheld with complete sincerity for the smooth conduct of proceedings. He appealed to members from all political parties to cooperate with one another to ensure the efficient functioning of the House. The contribution of each member is crucial in maintaining the dignity of the House, he added.
