Hindi Journalism Day is celebrated every year on May 30th. This day is not just a date, but a celebration of the courage and responsibility that confront us every morning, from the front page of the newspaper to the breaking news at night. This Day is very Important for Indian Journalism, So Hindi is mother language of India. 

A Page of History
On May 30th, 1826, Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla launched the first Hindi newspaper, “Udant Martand,” in Kolkata. In an era when English and Persian dominated, publishing a newspaper in Hindi was nothing short of revolutionary. Resources were limited, readers were few, and the sword of the British government loomed large. Yet, “Udant Martand” demonstrated that journalism is not just about reporting news, but also about awakening society.

Why is journalism important?

1. The right to ask questions: From the government to the system, journalists are the voice that conveys the common man’s questions to power. 2. Mirror of Truth: In an era of rumors and WhatsApp forwards, true journalism is about investigating facts and exposing the truth. 3. Voices from the Margins: Away from the glitz of Delhi, journalists provide a platform to stories from villages and towns that don’t find a place in the mainstream.

Challenges of Changing Times
Today, journalism has gone digital. The race for TRPs, fake news, and the pressure of social media confront every reporter. Often, the pursuit of “the fastest” often leaves “the most accurate” behind. Furthermore, the safety of journalists reporting on the ground is a major question.

But in this era, many independent journalists, YouTube channels, and local portals offer hope. They show that cameras and microphones can work not only in studios, but also in floodwaters and in farmers’ fields.

A Responsibility for Us Too

Journalism Day isn’t just for journalists. As a conscious reader, we also have a responsibility to:
