Sambalpur/Orissa – On the 8th day of the Sambalpur Book Fair, the literary fervor continued to thrive. As the day concluded, setting the stage for the grand finale, the anticipation heightened, marking the end of an extraordinary literary journey. It was a day filled with a distinctive blend of literary and musical enchantment, enthralling the audience with a harmonious fusion ranging from tribal folk dance to Shillong musicals.
The morning buzzed with vibrant activities at the Fair, featuring enthusiastic participation in engaging events at the children’s corner. Attendees showcased their skills in the “Best of Waste” craft workshop, responding creatively to the call of Namami Gange. The day unfolded with a captivating storytelling session titled ‘रंग बिरंगी, कहानी की दुनिया’ and a poetry recitation competition on the topic ‘मेरा भारत मेरा गर्व,’ where students confidently shared their opinions.
In a captivating literary session, distinguished children’s litterateurs took the stage in the ‘Meet the Author’ session, featuring Shri Dash Benhur (Sahitya Akademi awardee), Dr Rajkishore Padhi, and Shri Manas Ranjan Samal (Odisha Sahitya Akademi awardee). The insightful session delved into their literary contributions and engaged the audience in an enriching dialogue. The final literary session delved into the profound theme of ‘Gangadhar & Bhima Bhoi: Two Voices of Western Odisha,’ with esteemed researchers and professors leading the discussion. Prof Ashok Kumar Dash, Dr Satyananda Swain, and Dr Pradeep Kumar Panda presided over the session, offering deep insights into the distinct voices that have shaped the literary landscape of Western Odisha.
Today’s distinguished guests were Shri Vedbhushan (IAS), Commissioner of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, and Ms. Sneha Arugula (IAS), who graced the event with their presence. The event continued with the felicitation of students who were awarded for their outstanding achievements in the competitions held in the children’s corner.
The cultural performances captivated the audience, offering a mesmerising display of diverse talents. School students infused energy onto the stage with their lively presentations, while the traditional ‘Dhap’ folk dance added a touch of cultural richness. The retro Bollywood musical by Kupar Shadap from Shillong struck a chord with the audience, captivating them with its soulful melodies.
As the final curtain descends, we extend a warm invitation for the concluding day of the fair, promising a blend of entertaining activities for children and a cultural fusion spanning from Odisha to Ladakh. Join us for captivating performances, including one from the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, and a special presentation by Faisal Ashoor & Band, bringing the cultural richness of the land of lamas.
