The foundation of a democratic country depends on the voting rights given to its citizens. India is a democratic and constitutional country, ruled by the people, by the people, for the people. After India’s independence, the constitution came into force in the country on 26 January 1950. The Indian constitution gave certain rights to every citizen. Along with these rights, some duties were also prescribed for the ideal citizen. One of the duties of a citizen of India in the constitution is the right to vote.
Voter’s valuable vote brings a particular party to power for five years. In such a way one can fulfill the duty of being a citizen for the development of the country and the state. However, voter turnout in the country is low. National Voter’s Day is celebrated every year in the month of January to make voters aware about voting. After the age of 18, people of every age, class and gender have the right to vote. Let us know why and when the celebration of National Voters Day started.
The trend in India regarding voting is low. Till now women and many sections of people in the country do not use the right to vote. However, each and every vote is necessary for the progress of the country. Therefore, the purpose of celebrating Voters’ Day is to identify all eligible voters and motivate them to vote.
The eligible voters are identified on the day of the voter’s day. If their age is more than 18 years, then the names of such youths are included in the voter list and their Electoral Photo Identity Card is made. On this day the voters are also administered an oath that they should use their votes to elect a worthy representative for the development of the country.
What is meant by voting?
election is an important process of democracy by which the public (people) choose their representatives. It is through elections that the people of modern democracies choose individuals to occupy various positions in the legislature (and sometimes the judiciary and the executive). Voters can bring any party to power for five years with their valuable votes. By fulfilling this duty, voters can make their invaluable contribution in the development of the country. Voting Day was started in India in view of the decreasing trend among people regarding voting.
