Delhi government chairs a review meeting to take stock of Paryavaran Mitra program*

New Delhi – Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai chaired a review meeting with the officials of Environment Department regarding the Paryavaran Mitra program today at Delhi Secretariat. The ongoing selection process for the “Paryavaran Mitra” campaign for Delhi citizens was discussed during this meeting.

After the review meeting, Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai said, “The Delhi Government has been successful in running numerous campaigns to reduce pollution within Delhi. How the citizens of Delhi can become allies and partners in the ‘war against pollution’ campaign, for this, the government has launched the Paryavaran Mitra campaign on 7th July. The main objective of launching Paryavaran Mitra is to create a network of people of Delhi who have the awareness, knowledge, commitment, and the challenges of environmental sustainability in their own areas.”

He said, “According to the report released by the Environment Department, so far about 3,500 people have given a missed call on the toll free number 8448441758 issued by the department to become Paryavaran Mitra. The department has also begun the initial round of the screening process.”

Environment Minister Shri Gopal Rai said, “Paryavaran Mitras are an opportunity for lakhs of citizens of Delhi to know how they can become allies and partners in the fight against pollution. Any citizen of Delhi can start the process of becoming a Paryavaran Mitra by giving a missed call on the toll free number 8448441758. After making a missed call, in a very simple way, you will have to fill the registration form of 3-4 questions on WhatsApp. After that the department will contact them for further procedure.”

Shri Gopal Rai said, “Public participation is very important to give impetus to the government’s campaign against pollution. And we anticipate that the people of Delhi will cooperate with the fight against pollution in the same way that they have so far demonstrated their desire to become Paryavaran Mitra.”
