Delhi Government launches Centre for Healthcare Related project.

NEW DELHI :   In order to strengthen health systems in Delhi and across the country, the Kejriwal Government launched the Centre for Healthcare, Allied Medical and Paramedical Sciences at Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) on Monday. The centre was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia.  Centre for Healthcare, Allied Medical and Paramedical Sciences at DSEU will provide industry-relevant world class education in healthcare and its many segments including paramedical domain. Speaking at the occasion Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “If someone would study the history of DSEU, they will come to know that DSEU is the fastest growing university of India. It has redefined the skill-education in India today. There is a mindset deeply ingrained in our society that skill education is always a last resort. Of 2.5 lakh students passing out from Class 12, only 1 lakh are able to make it to good colleges and others suffer to get admission in a good course. In such a situation DSEU is changing the mindset of people towards skill-education very responsibly and has made it a matter of pride”.
Shri Manish Sisodia said, “today DSEU has launched two new and unique courses in the field of healthcare. Students can take admission for three years in a course but they can finish it whenever they want. They can take diploma certificates in a year also and they will have a number of job opportunities available for them after pursuing these courses. These courses at DSEU have been designed according to the aspirations of students.”
Stating the example of availability of skilled nurses in India Shri Sisodia said, “the need of skilled healthcare workers is rising continuously. According to figures available on every 10 physicians there is only one nurse available in India today. Whereas it should be the opposite of this. After COVID the job opportunities and demand for skilled healthcare workers have increased and these new courses at DSEU will play an important role in addressing this demand.”
Adding on, Chairperson of Delhi Vidhan Sabha’s Education Committee and AAP MLA, Ms Atishi said, “in just two years DSEU has established itself as one of the most prominent state universities and is providing world-class skill education to people of Delhi. The need for a program like Centre for Healthcare, Allied Medical and Paramedical Sciences was felt when Delhi as well as the whole country was struggling during the second wave of COVID pandemic with the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals. If we look at the figures, today in India there are only 44 healthcare professionals available for every 10,000 people, which is 25% of what WHO recommends. I am sure that students coming out of this institution will raise the healthcare standards not only in Delhi but across the country.”

Notably DSEU has tied up with Apollo Medskills Limited to establish the Centre for Healthcare, Allied Medical and Paramedical Sciences at the DSEU Okhla-II Campus. Apollo Medskills will be executing this project that will aid, grow, impart training and ensure industry-aligned career development of the students. Under this DSEU has introduced two new Bachelors programs – B.Sc. Dialysis Technology and B.Sc. Emergency Medical Technology and several unique degree, diploma and certificate programs that will be offered to more than 500 students yearly. Admissions for the program have already started.

Prof. (Dr.) Neharika Vohra, VC, DSEU said “Through this partnership with Apollo Medskills Limited, DSEU is introducing two Bachelors programs. This partnership has enabled us to bring in experts from the healthcare and paramedical sciences working closely on curriculum development for our new programs. Several prestigious large hospitals have come forward with their interest and partnership to train and recruit students.”
Also present at the inauguration were Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals and Dr Srinivasa Rao, Chief Executive Officer at Apollo MedSkills Limited, MLA Tughlakabad Shri Sahiram.
Dr.Srinivas Rao, Chief Executive Officer of ApolloMedskills said that this centre will be established as a centre of excellence for those aspiring careers in the healthcare sector. It will enhance employment opportunities for students in future. While India has the largest working-age population in the world, it still doesn’t have enough skilled medical practitioners to cater to the extant demand. This centre is an effort to bridge this gap through knowledge and technology.”
