NEW DELHI, May 17, 2026–Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that the Congress Party strongly condemns the Delhi BJP government’s decision to slash VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from 25% to 7%, while completely ignoring the soaring prices of petrol and diesel that are crushing the lives of the poor, middle class, farmers, and small transporters.

He said that instead of providing immediate relief to the common man by reducing the heavy VAT burden on petrol and diesel, the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government has chosen to extend a major tax concession to airlines and affluent air travellers by slashing aviation fuel taxes. He said that this decision exposes the anti-poor and pro-rich mindset of the BJP Government which has only hurt the interest of the common people in various ways ever since it came to power over a year ago.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the following current VAT Rates in Delhi exposes the BJP Government’s dual tax policy–pro-rich and anti-poor.

• Petrol: 19.40% VAT
• Diesel: 16.75% VAT 

He said that on current prices, state VAT alone adds roughly ₹15–16 per litre on petrol and ₹12–13 on diesel as Delhi consistently collects Around ₹4,000–4,600 crore per year in recent years of crores annually from VAT on petrol and diesel.

Devender Yadav said that while the common citizen of Delhi struggles with high fuel prices that directly impact daily commuting, kitchen budgets, auto-rickshaw fares, and essential goods transportation, the Delhi BJP Government has been busy reducing taxes on jet fuel, which is blatant favouritism towards the elite. He said that high petrol and diesel prices affect every single farmer in Delhi, yet the BJP has no concern for their miserable plight.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the Rekha Gupta Government has been providing liberal benefits to Corporates & the Rich, as the ATF tax cut primarily benefits airlines and upper-class passengers while the common man travelling by bus, metro, or two-wheeler gets no relief.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the BJP talks about revenue loss when Congress demands fuel price cut to provide relief to the common people, but has no problem foregoing hundreds of crores in revenue through this ATF reduction.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the relief to ATF comes at a time when inflation is rising and people are finding it difficult to make ends meet. He said that the BJP Government is once again proving that it stands with the rich and powerful and not with the common people of Delhi, who voted them to power.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the Congress Party demands that the Delhi BJP government to announce a substantial reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel, which will provide immense relief to the common citizens of Delhi. The people of Delhi deserve real relief, not cosmetic measures that help only a privileged few, he added.

He said that Congress will continue to raise its voice for the poor and middle class and fight against such discriminatory policies of the BJP, which has time and again shown that it only protects the interest of the rich while subjugating the common people.

नई दिल्ली, 17 मई, 2026 – दिल्ली प्रदेश कांग्रेस कमेटी के अध्यक्ष श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने कहा कि कांग्रेस पार्टी, दिल्ली की भाजपा सरकार के उस फैसले की कड़ी निंदा करती है, जिसके तहत एविएशन टर्बाइन फ्यूल (ATF) पर VAT को 25% से घटाकर 7% कर दिया गया है; जबकि पेट्रोल और डीजल की आसमान छूती कीमतों को पूरी तरह से नज़रअंदाज़ कर दिया गया है, जो गरीबों, मध्यम वर्ग, छोटे ट्रांसपोर्टरों और किसानों के जीवन को बुरी तरह प्रभावित कर रही हैं।

उन्होंने कहा कि पेट्रोल और डीजल पर VAT के भारी बोझ को कम करके आम नागरिकों को तत्काल राहत देने के बजाय, रेखा गुप्ता के नेतृत्व वाली भाजपा सरकार ने विमानन ईंधन पर टैक्स में कटौती करके एयरलाइंस और अमीर वर्ग को टैक्स रियायत देने का रास्ता चुना है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह फैसला भाजपा सरकार की ‘गरीब-विरोधी’ और ‘अमीर-समर्थक’ मानसिकता को उजागर करता है, जिसने एक साल से अधिक समय पहले सत्ता में आने के बाद से, विभिन्न तरीकों से केवल आम लोगों के हितों को ही नुकसान पहुंचाया है।

श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने कहा कि दिल्ली में मौजूदा VAT दरें BJP सरकार की दोहरी टैक्स नीति को उजागर करती हैं—जो अमीरों के पक्ष में और गरीबों के खिलाफ है।

उन्होंने कहा कि मौजूदा कीमतों पर, अकेले दिल्ली राज्य का VAT ही पेट्रोल पर लगभग ₹15–16 प्रति लीटर और डीज़ल पर ₹12–13 है; जिससे दिल्ली पिछले कुछ वर्षों से पेट्रोल और डीज़ल पर VAT से सालाना लगातार लगभग ₹4,000–4,600 करोड़ की कमाई कर रही है।

श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने सवाल किया कि पहले से अत्यधिक हवाई जहाज की टिकटों के दाम एयरलाइंस कंपनिया वसूल रही है तो क्या अब इस vat में कटौती के बाद हवाई यात्रा में कम दाम पर टिकट मिलेंगे। दिल्ली की भाजपा कहा कि जब कांग्रेस आम लोगों को राहत देने के लिए ईंधन की कीमतों में कटौती की माँग करती है, तो BJP सरकार राजस्व में नुकसान की बात करती है; लेकिन ATF पर टैक्स कम करके सैकड़ों करोड़ के राजस्व का नुकसान उठाने में उसे कोई दिक्कत नहीं होती।

श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने कहा कि जहाँ दिल्ली का आम नागरिक ईंधन की ऊँची कीमतों से जूझ रहा है—जिसका सीधा असर रोज़ाना के आवागमन, घर के बजट, ऑटो-रिक्शा के किराए और ज़रूरी सामानों की ढुलाई पर पड़ता है—वहीं दिल्ली की BJP सरकार जेट ईंधन पर टैक्स कम करने में व्यस्त रही है, जो कि अमीर वर्ग के प्रति खुला पक्षपात है। उन्होंने कहा कि पेट्रोल और डीज़ल की ऊँची कीमतें दिल्ली के हर एक आम नागरिक को प्रभावित करती हैं, फिर भी BJP को उनकी दयनीय स्थिति की कोई परवाह नहीं है।

श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने कहा कि रेखा गुप्ता की सरकार कॉरपोरेट्स और अमीरों को जमकर फ़ायदे पहुँचा रही है; ATF टैक्स में कटौती का फ़ायदा मुख्य रूप से एयरलाइंस और ऊँची क्लास के यात्रियों को मिलता है, जबकि बस, मेट्रो या दोपहिया वाहन से सफ़र करने वाले आम आदमी को कोई राहत नहीं मिलती।

श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने कहा कि ATF पर यह राहत ऐसे समय में दी गई है, जब महंगाई लगातार बढ़ रही है और लोगों के लिए अपना गुज़ारा करना भी मुश्किल हो रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि BJP सरकार एक बार फिर यह साबित कर रही है कि वह अमीरों और ताक़तवर लोगों के साथ खड़ी है, न कि दिल्ली के उन आम लोगों के साथ, जिन्होंने उसे वोट देकर सत्ता में पहुँचाया था।

श्री देवेंद्र यादव ने कहा कि कांग्रेस पार्टी यह माँग करती है कि दिल्ली की BJP सरकार पेट्रोल और डीज़ल पर VAT में भारी कटौती का ऐलान करे, जिससे दिल्ली के आम नागरिकों को राहत मिलेगी।,👍🏻55555=

उन्होंने कहा कि दिल्ली के लोग दिखावटी उपायों के नहीं, बल्कि असली राहत के हकदार हैं।

उन्होंने कहा कि कांग्रेस पार्टी गरीबों और मध्यम वर्ग के लोगों के लिए अपनी आवाज़ उठाती रहेगी और BJP की ऐसी भेदभावपूर्ण नीतियों के ख़िलाफ़ लड़ती रहेगी; BJP ने बार-बार यह साबित किया है कि वह सिर्फ़ अमीरों के हितों की रक्षा करती है, जबकि आम लोगों को दबाकर रखती है।
